NY Times’ Lead Terrorism Reporter Uses Unreliable Google Translate

December 21, 2016 by Russ Greene

Lead New York Times terrorism correspondent Rukmini Callimachi uses Google Translate to convert Arabic into English despite acknowledging the service is unreliable, raising questions regarding American media’s capacity for accurately covering international terrorism. While the Islamic State is retreating in Iraq, Islamic terrorists have struck in Jordan, Germany and Turkey over the course of just the past few days. And Al Qaeda offshoot Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, formerly Jabhat Al Nusra, has gained support throughout the Muslim world for its resistance […]

More Health Care, Less Health

December 8, 2016 by Russ Greene

The number of Americans with health insurance has greatly increased. And health care spending grew by 5.8% in 2015. Yet this growth in health care coverage and spending did not make Americans healthier on average. On the contrary, Americans died at a quicker rate. Follow Up: Michelle Obama Initiative Privately Admits It Partnered With ABA

December 7, 2016 by Russ Greene

Yesterday we covered how a Michelle Obama initiative has partnered with the American Beverage Association. Michelle Obama is the honorary chair. In 2013, Michelle and PHA announced their “Drink Up” campaign. The goal was to […]

Big Soda Co-Opts Michelle Obama’s Drink Up Campaign

December 6, 2016 by Russ Greene

Will Michelle Obama leave a legacy of progress against chronic disease or of complicity in beverage industry propaganda? That question is now at stake as the American Beverage Association has partnered with her health initiatives. Unfortunately, all indications suggest that Michelle Obama is leaning towards complicity with the beverage industry. Michelle’s public health initiative has partnered with the American Beverage Association, but has denied partnering with Big Soda and does not mention the ABA, Coca-Cola or PepsiCo in its list […]

A Six Billion Dollar Welfare Queen: The American Beverage Association

December 1, 2016 by Russ Greene

“It’s not the government’s job to grocery shop for my family. It’s mine.” – actress on behalf of the American Beverage Association If that’s the case, why does the American Beverage Association lobby the government to keep buying billions of dollars worth of sweetened beverages? We’ve known for years that the US federal government’s food stamp program buys billions of dollars worth of soda. This means American taxpayers are forced to contribute to the Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and […]
