Ohio State University appeared prominently in the press this year. Unfortunately, it wasn’t good press. Dr. Steven Devor’s study on CrossFit resulted in multiple lawsuits alleging that Devor fabricated data. Ohio State now has a hard choice: stand by Devor despite the mounting evidence and allegations, or fire him for scientific misconduct.
This Sunday, Ohio State posted a job opening:
So Ohio State needs someone new to verify that its human researchers follow scientific protocols. For example, this person will make sure that the researchers don’t make stuff up.
There are two plausible reasons for this job opening at Ohio State:
1. The previous “IRB protocol analyst” left. It’s not hard to speculate why.
2. Ohio State realized its existing IRB protocol compliance process wasn’t up to snuff. It’s also easy to see why they’d reach that conclusion.
Either way, it’s clear that Ohio State wants to avoid repeating the Devor debacle.
